WORLDWIDE SHORTAGE OF CoQ10 TO CAUSE SIGNIFICANT PRICE INCREASES

Winnipeg, MB — February 11, 2005 – In Japan, Coenzyme Q 10 (CoQ10) has long been recognized for its many health benefits, most notably in supporting heart health.  Due to recent regulatory changes in Japan, CoQ10 is now available over the counter (without a prescription).  The result of this regulatory change is a soaring increase in consumer demand.  Since Japan produces much of the world’s CoQ10 supply, they are now using the majority of their supply to meet the increased needs of the Japanese population.

Canadians and Americans have also been recognizing the many benefits of CoQ10, and consequently, North American demand has increased.  Additionally, research is supporting higher dosage formats, which means more raw material is needed to produce supplements, further tightening supply.

Vita Health has been able to maintain our pricing on CoQ10 to this point because we had secured a good price on our supply.  However, as that supply is depleted, Vita Health will be forced to buy the CoQ10 at elevated prices.  Significant price increases on CoQ10 skus will be necessary as a result.

A Japanese manufacturer of CoQ10 will open a production facility in the United States in 2006.  When this facility is in operation, the additional capacity, estimated at 100 metric tons will help ease the worldwide shortage.  Due to the timeline for these developments, we do not anticipate an improvement in the CoQ10 situation for 2005.

Vita Health Products regrets any inconvenience this supply shortage may cause our customers.  We will continue to keep you apprised of any developments through further announcements or through your Key Account Manager.
